AMSHeR @ the Premier of ‘The Commission: From Silence To Resilience.’

August 3rd, 2017, The African Men for Sexual Health and Rights [AMSHeR] attended the launch of the premier of ‘The Commission: From Silence to Resilience’ – a documentary film that chronicles the work the African Men for Sexual Health and Rights [AMSHeR], the Coalition of African Lesbians [CAL], the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa [ISLA] and that of various activists at the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights​ [ACHPR] leading up to the passing of the land mark ‘Resolution 275’ and the granting of observer status to the Coalition of African Lesbians [CAL] and other topical issues.

Resolution 275, a Resolution on Protection against Violence and other Human Rights Violations against Persons on the basis of their real or imputed Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity, was passed at the 55th Ordinary Session of The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights [the African Commission], held in Luanda, Angola, from 28 April to 12 May 2014.

The Commission: From Silence to Resilience, chronicles the story of Africa’s Human Rights Defenders’, their resilience and triumphs in the face of insurmountable odds and is a reminder of the work still to be done on the African continent to reduce violence based on real or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity [SOGI].
