On Africa Day, AMSHeR Calls on African States to Honour the Ekurhuleni Declaration

On this Africa Day, May 25th, 2017 – the African Men for Sexual Health and Rights [AMSHeR] acknowledges efforts made by African communities to reclaim peace, dignity and justice for all African’s people on the continent and beyond.

In line with the African Union’s [AU] Agenda 2063 that envisages ‘an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena.’

AMSHeR is aware of the violence and discrimination that Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender Africans face based on their real or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity and expressions.

AMSHeR reminds African States to honour the commitments set forth in the Ekurhuleni Declaration that sets forth ‘Practical Solutions on Ending Violence and Discrimination against Persons Based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression [SOGIE], adopted in Johannesburg, South Africa in March of 2016.
